Open Alternative School - An Update for 2017-2018

The Open Alternative School has been in operation since 1975 and it will continue to be part of Santa Barbara Unified in the 2017-18 school year.
While the enrollment at OAS has declined in recent years, the district is committed to keeping OAS open as an alternative elementary school.  OAS will discontinue instruction for grades 7 and 8 for the 2017-18 school year, but transitional and regular kindergarten enrollment is welcomed and encouraged for next school year.
The district will lead a re-design process for OAS as we seek to update the vision and mission of a small, alternative elementary school in our district.  This re-design process will begin in spring 2017 and conclude with recommendations to the Board of Trustees in the fall of 2017.
